So far I’ve only tried the whiskey, and I’ll revisit my review as I try the gin and mezcal. I first tasted the whiskey straight to see what the profile is like. To me it tastes like a spicy, flat root beer. The flavor isn’t bad by any means, but it’s not something I’d drink straight.
Next I used it to make a whiskey sour. Because the whiskey itself has very little viscosity due to being alcohol free, I thought the egg white in the whiskey sour would help compensate. I’m happy to say that idea worked out pretty well, and both my wife and I thought the drink was pretty good. We found that the spicey flavor of the whiskey came through a bit more than we cared for, so I recommend cutting back from the standard 2oz pour to 1 1/2 or even a bit less.
To be clear, it did not taste like a whiskey sour but we both thought it was an enjoyable drink. I can see having this as a “second drink” to avoid over indulging, or any time an alcoholic drink isn’t suitable - like lunch while skiing or golfing. If you don’t expect it to taste just like whiskey and think of it as it’s own beverage you won’t be disappointed.
